Black Oak is a native American tree from the eastern and central states, which thrives almost anywhere and is a great choice for warmer states, as well as being hardy in the coldest parts of the country. It grows well on all kinds of soil, including poor and dry soils, so wherever you are you can enjoy this majestic tree. The large, glossy leaves give this tree a wonderful appeal and as it matures it will start to produce acorns that local birds and other wild-life will love. In fall your Black Oak will turn gorgeous shades of yellow, red and yellow-brown, making a striking feature in the landscape. In spring the new shoots are covered in a dense brown fur that is unique and appealing.
Choose a sunny location in almost any soil for your Black Oak tree, as a lawn specimen, a tree to mark the boundaries of your property, an attractive screening tree or to develop natural woodland areas and encourage more wild-life. This tree will live for centuries and develop into a majestic specimen, but it is also quite fast-growing and will soon become a graceful addition to your landscaping.
