The Autumn Princess Encore Azalea is a unique evergreen flowering shrub that is not only smothered in spring with stunning pink flowers, but continues to flower a little through summer and then comes back with a brilliant encore of bloom in fall. It flowers for 9 months of the year, and then in winter the foliage turns a beautiful rich burgundy, bringing color to the winter garden too. Truly this is a plant for all seasons. It grows 3 to 5 feet in height and up to 3 feet across and will thrive everywhere from the warmer parts of zone 6 all the way into zone 9. Your Autumn Princess Encore Azalea grows best in acidic soil that is well-drained but does not dry completely. Most areas of the east naturally have acidic soil, but it is easy to check your own. If you do not have acid soil you can still grow these lovely plants in the ground by treating them with iron, or simply grow them in a container, which also allows them to be seen at their best during peak flowering periods. This plant does well in full sun or partial shade and it is more tolerant of heat than other azaleas. This is a perfect choice for foundation planting around your home, in flower beds, in wooded areas or in pots on your terrace.
