The Arctic Fire Red Twig Dogwood is a wonderful shrub for bringing winter color to your garden. It has twigs that are bright red, and hold that color throughout winter, contrasting with the bare earth or with snow. This is a very simple and effective way to add color in winter, with a plant that is easy to grow, smaller in size, and very low-maintenance. It is hardy to minus 20 degrees, so it will grow almost anywhere cold, yet it also thrives in warm areas, so it will grow anywhere. As well as thriving in regular garden soil, it grows well in wet earth, so it is especially useful for landscaping around streams and ponds, or for planting in low-lying areas where water accumulates. In summer, it has oval green leaves that then turn deep red in fall, adding to the value of this plant
Plant the Arctic Fire Red Twig Dogwood in a sunny or lightly shaded place, in regular garden soil, or in wet soil. It is an ideal choice if you have parts of the garden that are regularly wet. Water well during the first year or two, but after that it will be resistant to regular summer drought. It has no serious pests or diseases and it is not normally eaten by deer. This plant is a great choice for the early planting of your new garden, bringing variety and color at a time of year when few other plants are very attractive.
