The Gold Mound Spirea is a fabulous easy-care shrub that brings bright golden foliage to everyone, no matter how cold your garden is. It will easily survive minus 30 degrees and even lower temperatures, yet it bounces back in spring with a burst of golden leaves as bright as the sun. These turn in summer into chartreuse-green, sparkling and contrasting with the duller regular greens of your other plants. It is small enough to fit into any garden. It grows to about 3 feet tall, and spreads up to 4 feet wide, making it perfect used alone in smaller spaces, or in groups in larger beds. Whatever style of garden you have, this shrub will fit right in, and brighten every day with its warm and vibrant coloring. In fall the leaves add orange and red to the yellow, making a bold statement before retiring for the winter season.
Plant the Gold Mound Spirea in full sun for the best color, or in light shade. It will grow in any well-drained garden soil, from sand to clay, and thrives in dry spots too. It has no significant pest or diseases to worry about, and once established it is drought resistant. It can be pruned hard in early spring to keep it smaller, or simply trimmed with shears into a neat, rounded shape. This plant is a wonderful addition to any garden, bringing cheerful brightness into your beds or planter boxes.
