The Little Princess Spirea is a small, deciduous garden shrub with attractive mint-green leaves topped all spring and summer with bright-pink clusters of flowers. It is almost always in bloom, and if that was not enough, in fall the leaves turn vibrant shades of red, making an attractive show. It is hardy to minus 30 degrees, so even if you garden in a cold area, this plant will thrive. It is extremely easy to grow, yet it always looks attractive and colorful. It has a rounded shape a little over 2 feet tall, and spreads about 3 feet wide. This makes it ideal for smaller gardens, where it can be grown as a single plant. In larger gardens, it is perfect in groups in front of taller shrubs, or as part of mixed plantings of shrubs, evergreen and flowers. It is also small enough to grow well in planter boxes and tubs, alone or surrounded by annual flowering plants.
The Little Princess Spirea grows well in full sun or partial shade, and it will thrive in any kind of soil that is not constantly wet. It has no significant pests or diseases and will grow happily in your garden year after year with little or no care from you. It can be trimmed or pruned in early spring, before the new leaves arrive, or left to grow naturally. Either way it will hardly have started to grow for the season before it is smothered in beautiful pink flowers, bringing color and charm to every garden.
