The White by the Gate Camellia is one of the purest white flowers grown in gardens. The blooms are perfectly formal, large and flat when fully open. They are set off by the rich-green, glossy foliage of the bush, which grows into a medium-sized evergreen, around 10 feet tall and 6 or 8 feet across. It looks perfect almost anywhere in the garden, especially as a graceful specimen, clad in white, standing in a shady lawn, by a doorway, or, of course, by the gate. It is also perfect for growing with other acid-loving plants in a woodland setting, with gardenias, azaleas, and Japanese maples. Another way to grow this plant is in a large pot, where it can be brought into a prominent position when it is in bloom. However you grow it, the perfect, pristine blooms will enchant you and bring beauty to your garden.
Plant the White by the Gate Camellia in a partially-shaded location. It should be sheltered from cold winds, and grown in acid soil. If you do not have acid soil, it is still possible to grow this plant in the ground using chelated iron to keep it healthy. To grow in a pot, make sure it has a drainage hole, and use soil and fertilizers prepared specially for acid-loving plants. Once established in a suitable spot, this plant is easy to grow, with no serious pests or diseases. It will mature into a wonderful plant, and need nothing at all to thrive. It does not even need pruning to stay dense and neat.
