The Queen Palm, truly is the āqueen of palmsā, and a well-grown specimen is one of the most beautiful palms there is. It has a graceful, smooth, gray trunk, topped with arching leaves that are formed like plumes. It also has large clusters of orange berries that are very attractive, as they hang from the tree. It makes an elegant lawn specimen, or an avenue, or planted in a group of three it fills the corner of your property beautifully. This is also one of the hardier palms, and it grows well in warmer parts of Zone 9, so this is a tree that can be grown in many more places than most other palm trees. It can also be grown in a large indoor space for a long time, especially if it is a āgreat roomā with a high ceiling.
Plant the Queen Palm in a sunny location, in well-drained soil. It will do best in soil that is not too alkaline, and it should be fed regularly with palm fertilizer with a high Potassium value and added micronutrients. Once established it is drought-resistant, and usually free of pests or diseases, particularly if regularly fertilized. The only maintenance needed is to remove old fronds once they turn yellow and old seed clusters too. It can be grown in a large container, where it should also be regularly fertilized, and for many years it will make a graceful specimen for a terrace, patio, around a pool or even indoors in a room with a high ceiling.
