Ellwood’s Pillar Lawson Cypress is a very special miniature specimen plant, growing into a slender column of deep blue-green foliage. It will be just 3 feet tall and only 8 inches wide after ten years, and it naturally develops that very upright form with no trimming or clipping. The foliage has silvery overtones, and it looks rich and mature, with bushy needle-like leaves. Grow it as a specimen in a prime location in your garden, and it fits into even the smallest yard. It looks excellent among rocks and gravel, and it is perfect for planter boxes too.
Ellwood’s Pillar Lawson Cypress should be grown in full sun for the best density and richest coloring, but it will tolerate a little shade too. The soil should be well-drained, so avoid planting in heavy clay soils. It thrives in areas that are not too cold in winter, or too hot and humid in summer. It has no pests or diseases if planted in suitable soil, and it is moderately drought resistant once established. It needs no trimming or clipping to keep its unique slender form.
