Ellwood’s Pillar Lawson Cypress should be grown in full sun for the best density and richest coloring, but it will tolerate a little shade too. The soil should be well-drained, so avoid planting in heavy clay soils. It thrives in areas that are not too cold in winter, or too hot and humid in summer. It has no pests or diseases if planted in suitable soil, and it is moderately drought resistant once established. It needs no trimming or clipping to keep its unique slender form.
