The Fernspray Gold Hinoki Cypress is a beautiful informal evergreen, with golden foliage in sprays growing out from a central, upright form. It has just the right balance between neatness and casualness for a modern garden, and it is the perfect addition to almost any garden style, from gravel and boulder beds, to a Japanese courtyard. It grows at a moderate rate to reach about 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide in 10 years or so, and it continues to grow slowly, eventually passing 10 feet or more in height. Each branch is like an outward-spreading fern spray, rich gold at the ends, and more chartreuse green deeper inside. The overall effect is dynamic and very beautiful, creating a plant you will love in your garden, and prize for its unique form and vibrant coloring.
The Fernspray Gold Hinoki Cypress should be planted in full sun, in any well-drained soil. it will develop its open, unique appearance naturally, so don’t trim or clip it at all. Some pruning and removal of a few branches will give it a more mature, open character if you wish, but it is best left to grow naturally into a irregular and exotic plant you will love. It has no pests or diseases, and it requires no special maintenance to become a centerpiece in any garden setting.
