The Emerald Mound Honeysuckle is a broad, mounding deciduous shrub that grows no more than 3 feet tall, but can soon be 6 feet across. The attractive round leaves are bright green, with a soft, hairy feel, and they emerge early in spring and last a long time into fall, always looking handsome and bright. In late May pairs of butter-yellow and white flowers with prominent stamens grow from the base of every leaf. These are followed by August or September by pairs of small, bright red berries. Easily grown even in new urban gardens, it is ideal for filling spaces in beds, edging and making low dividing hedges and borders within your garden.

  • Broad, dense mounds of bright-green foliage
  • Attractive butter-yellow and white flowers in late spring
  • Bright red berries in August and September
  • Perfect for low-maintenance planting and low hedges
  • Grows best in cooler zones

The Emerald Mound Honeysuckle will grow in full sun in cooler zones, and in zone 6 it should be grown with afternoon shade. It thrives in areas with cooler summers, and doesnā€™t grow so well in hot zones. It grows in any well-drained soil, including urban soils and poor soil conditions, and in both acid and alkaline soils. It rarely has any pests or diseases, and deer donā€™t eat it. It resists winter salt spray too. Trim in spring after flowering to keep it dense, control the spread of make a hedge. Trimming through summer is possible if needed.
