The Weeping European Beech is an iconic tree that becomes a remarkable specimen, with an upright central trunk, broad, spreading horizontal branches, and a curtain of smaller branches that drop vertically all the way to the ground. Like a green waterfall, it is loved by all who see it. Allow plenty of room for this tree, which can spread over 40 feet wide in time. The attractive green leaves turn bronzy yellow in fall, and young trees hold the dry leaves through winter. This tree is perfect for a unique and outstanding specimen on a lawn in a larger property, or a young tree could be grown in a smaller space, or even a large tub, for a number of years.
Plant the Weeping European Beech in full sun, in deep, well-drained soil. Avoid wet soil. This tree grows best in climates with warm, moist summers, and not so well where summers are very hot and dry. It is generally free of pests or diseases and doesnāt need any special care. This specimen is directly descended from the famous weeping beech that used to live in Flushing, New York, brought over from Belgium in 1846.
