The Galaxy Magnolia is a top-pick specimen tree, with an absolutely spectacular display of very large blooms in mid-spring. These are 6 to 12 inches across, in wonderful shades of rose-pink to purple-pink. A tree in bloom is one of the great sights of spring. By flowering a little later, it avoids killing late frosts, making it an excellent choice in cooler regions. It will also grow well all the way into zone 9, and deciduous magnolias grow well in warm zones too, blooming very early in the season. This tree is the perfect choice for a lawn specimen, and its large leaves cast a good shade. It also grows well along the edges of woodland areas, and at the back of larger shrub beds. Wherever you grow it, you will adore this tree, one of the very best of the spring-flowering magnolias.
The Galaxy Magnolia is a vigorous tree, growing well in all normal garden soils that are well-drained, and growing best in richer soils that are generally moist. Good soil preparation, and the regular application of spring mulch will conserve moisture and keep your tree growing vigorously. No pruning is generally needed, and this tree does not normally suffer from pests or diseases. Allow sufficient room when planting for the mature development of the tree, then sit back and enjoy seeing the development of this outstanding specimen right in your own garden.
