American Persimmon Tree

A Persimmon tree is a great choice for a fruit tree in your garden that is both unusual and easy to grow. It will grow well in all the warmer parts of the country and is trouble-free and pest-free too. The large, orange fruits are attractive hanging on the bare branches of the tree, and they are also wonderful to eat fresh or in preserves. The orange flesh of the persimmon is sweet, soft and tastes like pears and apricots. The fruit is harvested when it changes color, but should then be stored to become completely soft before eating.
