There are many different varieties of Hinoki Cypress, but none have the unique character of the Spiralis Hinoki Cypress. This wonderful tree forms a slender, upright column of branches, covered in very dense, mossy foliage of a rich, dark green. But it isnāt the foliage that gives this tree its unique character, itās the way the branches spiral around the central trunk, giving each tree an individual character, and striking charm. Slow growing, adding just 2 to 4 inches a year, it does take some patience, but in time this tree will be about 5 feet tall and 2 feet wide. Wonderful in Asian-style gardens, and a great choice for containers, patience will bring something very, very special to your garden.
Plant your Spiralis Hinoki Cypress in full sun, or in hotter zones with a little afternoon shade. The soil needs to be moist and well-drained, and this variety needs a little more attention than other, less striking types of Hinoki cypress. Water regularly, especially during hot spells. Do not trim but just let your tree grow naturally into a unique specimen. Deer resistant and normally free of pests or diseases.
