The Dwarf Blue Scots Pine is a justifiably popular bush, and widely grown. Forming a rounded, compact ball of striking blue-green needles on upright branches, we asked our growers to turn it into something even more striking, by attaching it to a short but strong trunk. Now we have the Dwarf Blue Scots Pine Tree, a miniature tree with a rounded crown, and a presentation that makes this classic variety even more special. The crown will grow 4 to 6 inches a year into a beautiful rounded globe of branches and stiff blue needles. With the trunk it will stand 3 to 5 feet tall in less than 10 years, and make a striking, globe-topped miniature tree of special beauty. Perfect in a bed with spreading shrubs and other evergreens, use it too in a rock garden or in a planter box for an unusual formal look, with flowers and trailing plants underneath it.

  • Beautiful rounded ball of dense branches on a sturdy trunk
  • Foliage is a beautiful blue-green, with short, stiff needles
  • Grows well in zone 3, preferring cool summers
  • Easy to grow even in urban gardens
  • Crown will grow large in time for a beautiful specimen

Plant your Dwarf Blue Scots Pine Tree in full sun. It grows readily in any well-drained soil, including acidic soils and sandy, low-nutrient soils as well. Less hardy because it is raised into the air, it will grow well in zone 3, but not so well in the heat and humidity of southern states. Trimming the new shoots (candling) will keep the crown compact and ball-shaped. Plants in pots or boxes can be left outdoors all winter from zone 5. Not prone to any particular pests or diseases, and not eaten by deer. An easy plant to grow, and happy in urban gardens and new developments.
