Columnar Norway Spruce

The Columnar Norway Spruce is a hardy and attractive upright evergreen, just perfect for a screen or as a specimen tree. It has a dense, narrow form, never broken by snow, and it is very hardy – all the way to minus 40 degrees. It is fast-growing, so you will soon have a wonderful specimen, or a dense privacy screen. The growth is always neat, so it never needs clipping, although it can be clipped into an even tighter form is you prefer. It grows well in most kinds of soil, except for very chalky ones, and will grow in clay too. It is not very drought resistant, although it will deal easily with ordinary dry periods in cooler states, especially when well established. It looks lovely on either side of an entrance way, and stays narrow even as it grows tall and stately.

Plant your Columnar Norway Spruce in a sunny location. The only maintenance needed to have a beautiful evergreen all year round is a little water during dry spells. It will not break under a heavy snow fall and it is not normally bothered by deer either. This is the perfect tall evergreen if you garden in cold areas and it will stay dense and bushy right to the ground for decades.
