Sweet, delicious, and full of goodness, eating the heritage Bing Cherry straight from the tree is one of life’s simple but intense pleasures. The extra-large round cherries of this classic variety are produced in abundance in July, and they are such a dark red they are almost black. That rich color guarantees the presence of anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that are linked to the control of joint pain. In spring too the beautiful white blossoms on bare branches will fill you with joy, as you look forward to another season of delicious fresh cherries, pies and jams. The perfect first tree for your fruit garden, and also great for growing in your flower garden too, for its spring beauty. Harvest big crops within a few years of planting, and enjoy the pleasure of home-grown cherries – they can’t be beaten.

  • Very large dark red cherries of intense flavor, ripening in July
  • Bing is the standard against which all other varieties are judged
  • Attractive white blossoms in spring, on the bare branches
  • One mature tree gives 50 to 100 pounds of cherries
  • Requires a second tree for cross-pollination

Plant your Bing Cherry Tree in full sun in a rich, well-drained soil. It is very suitable for alkaline soils, where some other fruit trees don’t do well. Moderately drought tolerant after harvesting in July, and grows up to 2 feet a year when young. A second tree of a different variety is needed for cross-pollination. If your neighbors don’t already have a cherry tree to do the job, we recommend the varieties ‘Montmorency’ or ‘Sam’. Protection of the crop from birds may be necessary. Prune to keep a central leading branch and a rounded crown to shade the crop, and shorten back growth from the previous year by half. It is natural for a tree to drop fruit early in summer – this ensures the crop is a good size and the tree isn’t strained by overproduction.
