The Canyon Creek Abelia is a medium-sized shrub reaching 4 to 6 feet tall and wide. It has glossy evergreen leaves that are coppery-pink in spring, before turning pinkish-yellow and then a rich green. All fall and winter they are pink with bronzy overtones, and this plant is colorful and attractive all year round. For months starting in early summer it blooms with clusters of small white flowers. The flower bases are reddish-pink, and stay attractive for weeks, after the flowers fall. Grow this handsome plant in your beds, around your home, or as a boundary or low screen.
Grow the Canyon Creek Abelia in full sun or partial shade in any well-drained soil. Some moisture will give the lushest growth, but it is also drought tolerant once established. In zone 6 it may lose some leaves, but it quickly comes back in spring. An occasional light trim is all that is needed to keep it looking perfect, and pests or diseases don’t bother it. Deer normally won’t touch this reliable and attractive shrub.
