Dark Knight Caryopteris

The Dark Knight Caryopteris grows into a broad mound of slender stems with silvery-green leaves. From mid-summer to late fall every stem is covered in a profusion of deep-blue flowers that attract butterflies. The foliage has a scent of eucalyptus. This beautiful bush is perfect for the front of sunny shrub beds, or out in dry and rocky parts of the garden. Although it is often killed to the ground in zones 5 and 6, this doesn’t matter, as it quickly re-sprouts and blooms profusely.

The Dark Knight Caryopteris should be planted in full sun with good drainage. It grows in any soil, including dry and rocky soils, but avoid wet spots. It normally has no pests, and the aromatic foliage repels deer and rabbits. A quick trim back to a few inches tall in early spring is all the care needed. A great low-maintenance plant that delivers a big punch of color.
