The Dwarf Burford Holly is an incredibly useful evergreen shrub for zones 7, 8, and 9, with rich-green glossy leaves. It is decorated with bright red berries in fall and winter, and it needs no male plant to produce a full crop that brings color to the holiday season. This shrub naturally grows to about 6 feet tall, and it can be trimmed and maintained as low as 3 feet tall. Use it around your home for foundation planting, as a hedge, or grow it in the garden. Untrimmed it will form an attractive informal shrub with layered branches, and it looks perfect growing in an open area beneath large trees. Wherever you need rich green in a neat, easy to grow bush, this is your top choice.
Grow the Dwarf Burford Holly in full sun or partial shade. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil, but once established it is very tolerant of the heat and drought of hot parts of the country. It will grow in most soils, even alkaline ones that turn most holly bushes yellow. It will also grow in wetter soils, if there are some drier periods. It has few significant pests or diseases, and this low maintenance plant is a ‘must have’ in every garden.
