The Eisregen Blue Himalayan Cedar is an especially cold-resistant form of the popular Himalayan Cedar, and a wonderful specimen tree for lawns or the back of beds, growing well in zone 6 and in warmer parts of zone 5. With a graceful, upright form and slightly pendulous side branches, the rich icy-blue of its needles makes it a striking tree. Young plants grow fast, up to 18 inches a year, so it soon reaches a typical size of 10 to 15 feet tall and around 5 feet wide. In time it will reach about 40 feet tall and 20 feet wide, so allow plenty of room when planting – out on a lawn away from your home is ideal. Don’t plant under overhead wires. Very suitable for areas with dry summers, and doesn’t grow so well in high humidity. Very drought resistant once well established. The beauty and easy growing of this wonderful tree makes it the perfect choice when you want easy, fast-growing beauty in an evergreen.
The Eisregen Blue Himalayan Cedar grows best in full sun, and thrives in hot areas and places with dry summers. Grows best in well-drained soil, and is an easy and reliable tree, growing trouble-free in most gardens. Excellent drought tolerance once established, but young plants appreciate a deep soaking during long dry spells. Free of any significant pests or diseases, it also isn’t troubled by deer. Try to keep a single stem to form the central trunk – allowing multiple stems can lead to splitting – so remove any competing branches that may develop. Pruning isn’t needed, but you can keep it a little narrower by trimming side branches – cut in front of upward facing stems to retain a natural look.
