The Pencil Point Juniper is a small, very narrow evergreen tree, that grow to less than 5 feet tall, with a width of less than a foot. It makes the perfect narrow accent plant for a smaller area, or as part of a bed dedicated to a collection of dwarf conifers. It is very, very hardy, despite its small size, growing in zone 2, with winter temperatures falling to minus 50 degrees. It grows in poor soil, it tolerates urban pollution, and it remains tight and neat with no trimming at all. For a smaller garden this is the perfect accent plant, because it will not outgrow even a small space. It grows in all the coldest parts of the country, as well as into warmer areas in zone 6.

  • Very tight narrow column of blue-green foliage
  • Perfect miniature accent plant for smaller spaces
  • Stays small, reaching no more than 5 feet in 10 years
  • Extremely cold-hardy to minus 50
  • Handsome plant for an outdoor pot or planter

Plant the Pencil Point Juniper in a sunny place. It grows well in windy, exposed places too. It tolerates drought well once it is established, and it grows in any well-drained soil, including rocky and alkaline soils. It has no significant pests or diseases, and it is generally not eaten by deer. In a container add gravel or coarse sand to the potting soil or use a cactus soil to give your plant the drainage it needs. It can also be grown as a unique bonsai, in a shallow pot.
