Few trees are as striking or as beautiful as the Prostrate Beauty Himalayan Cedar. It develops into a broad, spreading plant 10 feet or more across, growing almost flat, and staying 5 feet or less in height. The beautiful silver-blue foliage covers branches that grow horizontally and then become pendulous at their tips, creating a beautiful weeping effect. This is a wonderful alternative to spreading junipers, with much more character and beauty than those over-used plants. A perfect choice when you have a large area to cover, and as attractive on flat ground as it is on banks and slopes. Also beautiful among large rocks and boulders, or arching over the top of a retaining wall. Allow plenty of room for it to develop – use perennials or quick-growing shrubs to fill the space around it, removing them as it grows. Growth is around 8 inches a year, so it develops relatively quickly into a good-sized specimen, becoming more and more beautiful as time passes.

  • Gorgeous blue-green needles on broad arching branches
  • Forms a low, spreading mound of horizontal branches with weeping tips
  • Excellent ground cover for larger areas and for slopes and banks
  • Drought tolerant and best in areas with dry, low-humidity summers
  • Deer resistant and normally free of problems

Be sure that your Prostrate Beauty Himalayan Cedar is in full sun, or with no more than a couple of hours of shade. Grow it in any well-drained soil and avoid wet, low-lying areas. Once established it has good drought tolerance and thrives in hot, dry summers. Hardy in warmer parts of zone 6. Deer don’t bother it and it usually has no particular pests or diseases. Don’t trim, but remove any straight, vertical stems that might grow up, to preserve its unique prostrate growth pattern.
