The Spilled Wine® Weigela is an easy, reliable shrub you will love. It has rich burgundy leaves from spring to the end of fall, and from late May it is covered in large trumpet-shaped flowers of a brilliant rich purple-pink. It makes a great show, and it is very easy to grow. More compact than other purple-leaf weigela, it grows only 2 to 3 feet tall, and it is always a little wider than tall, with a mounded form. Use it in the front of your beds, along a path or driveway, or in planters and pots. Hummingbirds love it, and so will you.
Grow the Spilled Wine® Weigela in full sun for the best colors and blooming. It grows well in all but the hottest and coldest parts of the country. This tough and easy shrub grows in any soil that is well-drained, including poor soils and urban conditions. It needs no special care or attention, and never seems to suffer from pests or diseases. Deer leave it alone. Some pruning after flowering is useful, but often not needed.
