The Strongbox® Inkberry Holly is the perfect replacement for boxwood, especially if you find that plant hard to grow in your part of the country. It has very similar small, shiny, dark-green leaves all year round, and it grows no more than 3 feet tall and wide, staying dense and bushy right to the ground. It will grow naturally neat and mounded, or it can be trimmed into perfect hedges. Use it wherever you would use a low boxwood – for a hedge or specimens, or in pots by the doorway.
The Strongbox® Inkberry Holly can be grown in full sun or light partial shade, and it thrives in moist soils, even including wet ones. Grow it in acid soil and use a potting mix for acid-loving plants for container growing. Trim in late winter and fertilize in early spring for the strongest growth and mulch the shallow roots to conserve moisture. Free of pests or diseases, this plant is so much easier to grow than boxwood, but it looks just as good.
